Olivier Assayas retrospective featuring the Munich Film Museum until 22.02.2012, the Munich Film Museum presents a retrospective of French filmmaker Olivier Assayas. In total during this period eight of his films will be presented. On 01/18/2012 Assayas's presentation of his work as part of "Irma Vep" a guest at the Film Museum. Ever since his film "Carlos" (2010) he is a star of the European auteur cinema.
The world of Assayas' film is a visual culture of the globalized society. The change of the times - politically, economically, biographical - and its implications for private and family ties as well as the importance of art are the focus of his film. His films show a broad range of expressive forms an amazing variety of genres: family and coming-of-age stories, melodramas, science fiction, thriller, costume drama, action film, portrait artist and concert film.
As the son of screenwriter Jacques Rémy, born in 1955 Assayas came early with the world of film in contact - but first he concentrated on painting and especially music. His interest as a young man was primarily a punk-rock and the rebel writings of Guy Debord, which was reflected also in his later films.
